§ 7. Powers and duties of the mayor.

  • The mayor is a member of the city council, and presides at meetings of the city council. The mayor is the head of city government for all ceremonial purposes and for purposes of military law, but has no administrative duties. The mayor represents the city in intergovernmental relationships, appoints with the advice and consent of the city council appointive officers and members of boards and commissions of the city, signs all ordinances and resolutions, and performs other duties specified by the city council that are not inconsistent with this charter and the duties of the mayor. Contracts authorized or approved by the council may be signed by either the mayor or the city manager.
