Article II. MAYOR, COUNCIL AND OTHER OFFICERS GENERALLY |
§ 8. Mayor pro tem.
At the meeting following each biennial election at which the newly elected mayor and councilmembers are inducted into office, or as soon thereafter as practicable, the members of the city council by majority vote shall elect one (1) of their number as mayor pro tem to serve in such capacity at the will and pleasure of a majority of the members of the city council. During the absence or disability of the mayor, the mayor pro tem shall serve as acting mayor, preside at meetings of the city council and be charged with all the duties and exercise all of the powers of the mayor. In case of the absence, disability or disqualification of the mayor or the mayor pro tem, or the removal of the mayor pro tem, any councilmember may be elected to serve temporarily as mayor pro tem.
