§ 10. Powers and duties of planning commission.

  • The planning commission shall have the following powers and duties:

    (a)

    Develop and recommend to the city council a master plan and changes and amendments thereto for the physical development of the city;

    (b)

    Recommend to the city council proposed future changes in the zoning regulations and land use plan.

    (c)

    Exercise control over development, platting and subdividing land within the corporate limits of the city and its extraterritorial jurisdiction under all regulations adopted by the city council and not inconsistent with state law;

    (d)

    When requested to do so by the city council, submit to it a list of recommended capital improvements which in the opinion of the planning commission are necessary or desirable to be undertaken during a forthcoming number of years to be specified by the city council.

    (e)

    Request and be furnished needed information from the departments and offices of the city in relation to its work;

    (f)

    Use personnel assigned by the city manager and city planners and other consultants recommended by the city manager and approved by the city council, to accomplish its duties and responsibilities;

    (g)

    Be responsible to and act as an advisory body to the city council in all matters relating to city planning, land development, zoning and platting and subdividing land; and

    (h)

    Perform such additional duties and exercise such additional powers as may be prescribed by ordinance, not inconsistent with the provisions of this charter or state law.
