Chapter 9.08. OFFENSES AGAINST THE PERSON |
§ 9.08.020. Definitions.
As used in this chapter:
"Administrator" means the individual designated human relations administrator by the city manager.
"Committee" means the Uvalde housing authority.
"Creed" means a set of principles, rules, opinions and precepts formally expressed and seriously adhered to or maintained by a person.
"Discriminatory housing practice" means an act that is unlawful under Sections 9.08.040 through 9.08.060 of this chapter.
"Dwelling" means any building, structure or portion thereof which is occupied as, or designed and intended for occupancy as, a residence by one or more families and any vacant land which is offered for sale or lease for the construction or location thereon of any such building, structure or portion thereof.
"Family" includes a single individual.
"Major life activities" means functions such as, but not limited to, caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working.
"Person" includes one or more individuals, corporations, partnerships, associations, labor organizations, legal representatives, mutual companies, joint stock companies, trusts, unincorporated organizations, trustees, trustees in bankruptcy, receivers, fiduciaries and any other organization or entity of whatever character.
"Physical or mental handicap" means any physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities.
"Physical or mental impairment" includes:
1.
Any physiological disorder or condition, cosmetic disfigurement or anatomical loss affecting one or more of the following body systems: neurological; musculoskeletal; special sense organs; respiratory, including speech organs; cardiovascular; reproductive; digestive; genitourinary; hemic and lymphatic; skin; and endocrine; or
2.
Any mental or psychological disorder, such as mental retardation, organic brain syndrome, emotional or mental illness, and specific learning disabilities.
"Senior adult" means a person fifty-five (55) years of age or older.
"To rent" includes to lease, to sublease, to let and otherwise to grant for a consideration the right to occupy premises not owned by the occupant.
