§ 6.10.030. Impoundment.

  • A.

    The animal warden or any police officer is authorized to and shall, if possible, take possession of and impound any livestock found running at large within the city limits.

    B.

    If an impounded animal is not claimed by its owner, and all impoundment fees paid, within three days of the date of impoundment, the chief of police is authorized to sell such animal at public auction to the highest bidder for cash. Notice of the time and place of sale shall be given by posting in three public places within the city limits, at least ten days prior to the date of the sale.

    C.

    The owner of an impounded animal may redeem the animal at any time prior to its sale as provided in subsection B of this section, by paying to the city the fees prescribed in this subsection:

    1.

    The fee for horses, cattle, donkeys, and pigs is a sum equal to $25.00 per animal plus the cost of impoundment.

    2.

    The fee for goats, sheep and fowl is a sum equal to $15.00, plus the cost of impoundment.
