§ 2.04.050. Mayor pro tem—Election and duties.

  • At the first meeting of the council, biennially, the city council shall, by majority vote, elect one of their number as mayor pro tempore, who, in the absence of the mayor, shall preside at all meetings of the council and be charged with all the duties and exercise all the powers of the mayor. In the case of the absence and disqualification of the mayor and mayor pro tempore, the city secretary shall call the city council to order, after which a mayor pro tempore shall be elected by the councilmembers present to preside over the meeting, and then the business shall be proceeded with in due form.
