Definitions.

"Caliper" means a measurement at 12 inches above the ground.

"Conservation subdivision" means a dense development plan that preserves undivided, buildable tracts of land as communal open space for residents in order to conserve natural habitat.

"Root flares" means the place where the topmost root emerges from the trunk.

"Understory" means the shrubs and plants growing beneath the main canopy of a tree or forest.
