Chapter 15.08. ELECTRICAL CODE ADOPTED |
§ 15.08.010. Adopted.
A.
That a certain document, two copies of which are on file in the office of the building official of the City of Uvalde, being marked and designated as the National Electrical Code, 2014 edition as published by the National Fire Protection Association, be and is hereby adopted as the electrical code of the City of Uvalde, in the State of Texas for regulating and governing the construction, installation, repair, alteration, operation and maintenance of electrical wiring, apparatus and fixtures in the City of Uvalde; providing for the issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; and each and all of the regulations, provisions, penalties, conditions and terms of said electrical code on file in the office of the city secretary of the City of Uvalde in Chapter 15.08, Electrical Code Adopted, Title 15, Buildings and Construction, Uvalde Code of Ordinances; are hereby referred to, adopted, and made a part hereof, as if fully set out in this legislation, with the additions, insertions, deletions and changes, if any, prescribed in subsection B of this section.
B.
Amendments. The following sections are hereby revised:

[Commercial Work Requiring Supervision of Electrician.] In the actual commercial work of installing, maintaining, altering or repairing any electric conductors or equipment for which this article or other ordinance requires a permit, there shall be present and in direct supervision a qualified electrician of the proper classification. An electrical contractor or master electrician shall be liable and responsible for layout and technical supervision of any work which requires a permit, and a journeyman or higher classified grade electrician shall be in direct "on the job" supervision of work carried on specified in this article.
D.
[Homeowner's Affidavit.] A homeowner may personally install electrical outlets/plugs, wires or fixtures within his place of residence except for meter loops, electrical panels and the grounding of any pools and spas only after an owner applies for a homeowner's affidavit. When the homeowners affidavit is signed and notarized, an electrical permit may be issued. All electrical work must be done in accordance with this Code, and will be subject to inspection. Work performed by a homeowner, under the provisions of this section must be done by himself on homestead premises owned and occupied. Rental properties are not considered homesteads. The homeowner shall not employ another person to assist him in any way on work done under the provisions of this section. The city will not be held liable for any electrical work done by the homeowner.
E.
[Licenses Issued by City.] The building official will continue to renew those electrical licenses issued by the city prior to the effective date of the ordinance from which this section is derived, but no new city licenses will be issued.

Ord. No. 2014-30 , §§ 1, 2, adopted Oct. 14, 2014, repealed the former § 15.08.010, and enacted a new § 15.08.010 as set out herein. The former section pertained to similar subject matter and derived from Ord. No. 2008-10, § 1, 5-9-2008; Ord. No. 2009-06, § 1, 4-12-2009.
