§ 3.20.070. Hotel tax committee.

  • A.

    The hotel tax committee is composed of the city manager (or his/her designee), who is the presiding member, and nine members appointed by the mayor for two-year terms, except that no member may serve beyond the term of office, occupation, or interest by reason of which the member holds membership. The hotel tax committee advises the city council with respect to the imposition, collection and use of revenues collected through the hotel occupancy tax.

    B.

    The mayor shall appoint a member to represent each of the following interests:

    1.

    Historic downtown Uvalde (a business owner or merchant);

    2.

    The local hotel industry;

    3.

    The city;

    4.

    Historic preservation;

    5.

    The local food service industry;

    6.

    Local retail business;

    7.

    Local media;

    8.

    Local points of interest; and

    9.

    The general public.

    10.

    Local secondary or post-secondary educational institutions.

    C.

    A vacancy on the committee is filled in the same manner as an original appointment. The person appointed to the vacancy serves for the unexpired portion of the term and must represent the same interest as the member whose vacancy the person is appointed to fill.

    D.

    The committee may promulgate its own rules of procedure.
