§ 10.16.010. Speed limits.

  • A.

    It is unlawful for any person to operate a vehicle within the corporate limits of the city at a rate of speed in excess of the following speeds:

    1.

    Twenty miles per hour on any alley.

    2.

    Thirty miles per hour on any street, except as provided in this chapter.

    3.

    Twenty miles per hour on any street that the state does not have any jurisdiction over and the street is under the jurisdiction of the city, when passing a school building or the grounds thereof during an active school zone as posted.

    4.

    Thirty-five miles per hour on U.S. Highway 90 between Grove Street and Evans Street; 30 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 83 between Calera Street and Mesquite Street; 40 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 83 from Mesquite Street to a point 500 feet south of Schwartz Street; 25 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 83 from a point 500 feet south of Schwartz Street to a point 500 feet north of Finley Street during an active school zone as posted and 40 miles per hour at all other times; 40 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 83 between a point 500 feet north of Finley Street to the north city limits; 40 miles per hour between Calera Street and .8 mile north of the south city limits; 50 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 83 from .8 mile north of the south city limits and 50 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 83 from .8 mile north of the south city limits and on State Highway 55 from U.S. Highway 83 to the west city limits and on State Farm Road 117 from West Cargile Street to the most southern city limits; and 50 miles per hour on Farm Road 117 from the intersection with U.S. Highway 83 to West Cargile Street.

    Forty miles per hour on U.S. Highway 90 between Evans Street and Cook's Slough, excepting the school zone as posted, 30 miles per hour between Mayhew Street to 200 feet west of Benson Road; 50 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 90 between Cook's Slough and F.M. Highway 481; and 55 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 90 between F.M. Highway 481 and western corporate limits.

    6.

    Thirty miles per hour on Studer Street (F.M. 862) from its intersection with Getty Street (US 83) to its intersection with Fourth Street (F.M. 1023) excepting the school zone between Studer Park and Second Street; 20 miles per hour as posted and 30 miles per hour at all other times on Studer Street between Studer Park and Second Street; 30 miles per hour on Fourth Street from U.S. Highway 90 to Leona Road; 20 miles per hour on Fourth Street from Leona Road to Ashby Drive as posted and 30 miles per hour at all other times; 30 miles per hour on Fourth Street from Ashby Drive to Studer Street; 40 miles per hour on Fourth between Studer and north city limits.

    7.

    Thirty miles per hour on FM 1435 between U.S. Highway 90 and the north property line of Leona Street; 45 miles per hour on F.M. 1435 from the north property line of Leona Street to the intersection of F.M. 2369.

    8.

    Twenty-five miles per hour on North Getty Street (U.S. Highway 83) from its intersection with Oak Street to its intersection with Leona Street as posted and 30 miles per hour at all other times; 30 miles per hour between Leona Street and 1,030 feet north of Mesquite Street.

    9.

    Forty miles per hour on FM 2369 from MP 6.158 at the city limit easterly to MP 6.894 in the city for a total distance of 0.736 miles approximately.

    10.

    Forty-five miles per hour on US 90 from Control Section 0024-01 MP 3.729, approximately 700 feet east of N. 5th Street, northeasterly to Control Section 0024-01 MP 5.718, at approximately 1,320 feet east of FM 1574, for a total distance of 1.745 miles approximately.

    11.

    Twenty miles per hour on Brice Lane, in its entirety, from its intersection with East Cargile Street to its intersection with McGlasson Street.

    B.

    Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection A of this section, no person shall drive any vehicle at a greater speed than is reasonable and prudent, having regard for the traffic conditions, actual and potential hazards then existing and the use of the streets or so as to endanger the life or limb or injure the property of any person.
